Open-source command-line backup program with encrypted, deduplicated snapshots to local disks or cloud storage.
Restic is an open-source backup program for Linux, macOS, Windows and BSD. It takes snapshots of files and folders, splits the data into deduplicated, encrypted chunks and stores them in a repository on a local disk, an SFTP server or object storage such as S3. Because only new chunks are uploaded, nightly backups of large servers stay small after the first run.
Snapshots can be listed, mounted and restored file by file, and old ones are pruned with retention rules you define. It runs from the command line, so it fits cron jobs and configuration management. Test restores regularly, keep the repository password somewhere safe outside the server, and watch prune and check runs on large repositories.
